10×12 Shed Plans Free

This step by step woodworking project is about free 10×12 gable shed plans. I have designed this shed with a gable roof so you can create additional storage space in your backyard. This shed is the ideal construction if you want to keep the costs down while enjoying a beautiful and sturdy design. My plans come with step by step instructions and you can easily adjust all the dimensions to suit your needs. See my other DIY projects HERE.

We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Drill pilot holes trough the components before inserting the wood screws, to prevent the wood from splitting.

• D – 2 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 113″ long, 1 piece – 120″ long, 6 pieces – 85″ long 2xSIDE WALL

How to build a 10×12 shed

Building-the-floor-frame

First of all, you need to build the floor frame of the shed. Cut the joists from 2×6 lumber, using the information from the free 10×12 shed plans. Drill pilot holes through the rim joists and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the perpendicular components. Align the edges flush and check if the corners are square.

Fit 4×4 skids to the shed floor, making sure you place them equally-spaced. Drill pilot holes through the joists and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the skids.

Use 3/4″ tongue and groove plywood sheets for the floor of the shed. Align the edges flush and leave no gaps between the components. Drill pilot holes and insert 1 5/8″ screws to secure them into place.

Building-the-side-wall-frames

Build the frame for the side walls from 2×4 lumber. Cut the components at the right dimensions. Drill pilot holes through the plates and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the studs. Align the edges flush and make sure the corners are square.

Building-the-back-wall-frame

Build the back wall for the shed in the same manner described above. As you can see in the diagram, you need to double the studs placed at both ends of the wall frames, for an extra support.

Assemble the front wall for the shed. As you can easily notice in the free plans, you need to frame the door for the shed, by leaving space for the opening. You can easily adjust the width of the door so it suits your needs.

Fit the wall frames to the floor of the shed, starting with the front and back walls. Align the edges flush, drill pilot holes through the plates and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the floor. Use a spirit level to plumb the walls. Fit the wall frames to the sides of the shed. Drill pilot holes and insert 3 1/2″ screws to lock the adjacent walls together tightly.

Fit the T1-11 siding sheets to the front wall of the shed. Align the edges with the top plates and secure them into place with 1 1/2″ brad nails. Insert the nails every 8″ along the framing. As you can see in the plans, you need to make a few cuts to the sheet that goes around the door opening.

Fit the siding panels to the back wall, in the same manner described above.

Fit the panels to the side walls of the 10×12 shed.
